Prepbun began with Mai Mason's personal journey. As a low-income student in high school, Mai underperformed on the ACT simply because she didn't realize it was a skill requiring specific preparation rather than just testing school knowledge. Without proper guidance or self-discipline to study effectively, she missed opportunities to attend her preferred schools.

This setback became a blessing in disguise as Mai pursued pure mathematics at CU Boulder, which turned out to have the best pure math program in Colorado. Though everything worked out for Mai, she recognized many students aren't as fortunate.

Her journey into SAT tutoring began as an extension of her math tutoring services. She quickly identified a critical gap in the industry: math sections weren't being taught by actual mathematicians, and English sections lacked instruction from language and composition experts.

Through hands-on experience, Mai discovered that SAT success is a learnable skill with specific techniques that can dramatically improve scores in short timeframes. Her experience working for other test prep companies revealed approaches that weren't delivering value proportionate to their cost.

Most concerning was the industry's profit-first mentality that prioritizes margins over student outcomes. Additionally, Mai noticed Christian students and schools had no faith-aligned options, sometimes facing neglect from major industry players.

These realizations inspired Mai to create Prepbun four years ago—a test prep company built on genuine expertise, unlimited support, and values that put student success first. Today, we're proud to offer specialized tutoring that transforms not just test scores, but futures.
